This exhibition is a retrospective of sculptural fiber constructions by Frances Dezzany. The themes of shields, totems and masks, inspired by shapes found in nature, are expressed in her work. The artist uses craft techniques in non-traditional ways to render dimensionality. Current works explore man-made materials with plastic and packaging as a resource for dimensional explorations.
Frances Dezzany was born in Chicago and moved to New Jersey where she completed her Bachelor’s degree at Kean University in General Elementary Education and a Master’s degree at Montclair University in Fine Arts. She studied anatomy drawing with Anthony Palumbo at The Art Students League of New York for several years. Her art work has been exhibited in the Newark Art Museum (NJ), Montclair Art Museum (NJ), Delaware Art Museum and the Longview Museum of Fine Arts (TX).
